The ColorStream component-video connection, first introduced by Toshiba, is an excellent analog interface between a digital video source and a nondigital TV. 	The SD2800 is distinguished by an elegant new cosmetic styling that combines a sleek aesthetic with the ultimate in convenience and utility. The cabinet has been streamlined and reduced in height relative to earlier models, optimizing it for inclusion in multi-component home theaters. Its acrylic faceplate offers an attractive high-end appearance, and the player's expanded complement of front-panel controls enables operation of the DVD player even if you misplace the remote. The front panel provides access to all main DVD functions, including a new one-touch picture zoom button.

	Further enhancing image quality, the SD2800 offers Toshiba's Video Black Level Expansion circuitry, which lets you position the reference black threshold cutoff at Normal (7.5 IRE) or Enhanced (0 IRE). The Enhanced position expands the overall contrast range in the picture, resulting in richer, deeper blacks and finer tonal gradation and gray-scale reproduction. It also includes the capability of reproducing 'blacker than black' PLUGE signals, a critical feature for calibrating optimal brightness levels in a home theater environment.

	Another unique Toshiba feature is Strobe Picture Viewer, which displays high-speed action images in successive order when you select the number of picture 'samples' desired. This feature is ideal for examining scenes such as a golf swing or special-effect sequence. The player's picture zoom feature magnifies selected areas of the picture.

	The SD2800 offers coaxial and optical digital audio outputs, is CD Text compatible, and shows a bit-stream display if you're curious to see how much of a disc's capacity is in use. The player offers a parallel video output that's ideal for multi-room applications. You can connect the player via composite, S-video, and/or interlaced component-video outputs and watch simultaneous images from each connected TV.

	The player also offers a variety of audio enhancements, including Normal (3-D virtual surround sound from two speakers using Spatializer N-2-2 circuitry) and Dialogue (which enhances center-channel frequencies during playback of Dolby Digital-encoded discs).
